Hyde Park is the largest of the four Royal Parks, forming a chain from the entrance of Kensington Palace to the main entrance of Buckingham Palace. Once the hunting ground for Henry VIII, the park is known for Speakers' Corner (where everyone from Orwell to Marx have tried to convert the masses), the waterfowl-filled Serpentine Lake and multiple famous monuments and statues.

To mark special royal occasions, such as the Queen’s birthday, salutes are fired at midday in the park by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery. It’s quite a spectacle for your eyes and your ears, so well worth checking if there are any royal occasions happening during your stay. This palace is steeped in history, being a favoured residence for the Royal Family, with Queen Victoria born there and Princess Diana living there from 1981-1997. Every summer across two weekends, the music festival British Summer Time comes to Hyde Park.
