Carbon Bar Crowns Local Office Worker as DJ Supremo

Local office worker, Laurence Kemball-Cook, has been crowned Carbon Open Decks Office DJ Champion of 2008, following a gruelling DJ battle that took place last night at Carbon Bar in London’s West End.

Laurence, from One Media, clinched the title after playing an electric 20-minute set which comprised of 19 songs, from hip hop to northern soul with a touch of funk, that wowed the panel of high profile judges, including Craig Torrance from MixMag and Innes Weir from M8 Magazine.

Laurence comments, “It was an amazing feeling taking part in Carbon Open Decks Championship and playing to such a responsive crowd. And winning the title just topped off a great night! I’m already gearing up to play my prize winning set at Carbon again”

Not only does Laurence take home the title, he also receives £100 worth of music vouchers, a generous £100 bar tab and the chance to play a full set at Carbon in February.

The inaugural Championship at Carbon attracted amateur DJs from all across the capital who competitively mixed their tunes on the decks to a packed-out, lively bar full of West End workers. The unique competition was also broadcast live across London’s airwaves on Radio Carbon 87.7FM*, which is the capital’s first ever in-bar analogue radio station.

Joining the judging panel of Craig Torrance and Innes Weir was resident DJ Tre Lowe who ranked the competitors based on their creativity, originality, technical ability and overall entertainment factor.

Carbon Bar Manager Rachael Scollen comments, “The inaugural Open Decks Office DJ Championship was a great success and we’re absolutely delighted that Laurence was crowned our champion. Feedback from the capital’s office workers who attended the night has been extremely positive and we look forward to hosting this event again in the near future.”

Craig Torrence of MixMag adds, “Laurence technique and professional mixing skills were a notch above the rest – and he really got the spectators going! In fact there has been some outstanding musical talent showcased here tonight and we thank Carbon for hosting a fantastic event.”
