25 January 2008London bar granted radio broadcast license
Testing, testing…1…2…3… And we’re live! Carbon Bar today announces the launch of Radio Carbon 87.7FM, making history as London’s first ever in-bar analogue radio station and the newest station to hit the West End and Central London!
Radio Carbon 87.7FM , the new voice of W1, will boast a number of well-known DJ talents. Pete Fergusson, noted for being the UK’s youngest on air radio presenter as well as launching Virgin Megastore Radio and Topshop’s in-store radio station will be hitting the airwaves on the afternoon show from 3-6pm weekdays. The evening show, from 6-9pm, will be hosted by some great up and coming DJ’s including Ed Adoo, the voice of MTV Base and Ruth Barns of BBC and LBC fame.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be launching Radio Carbon 87.7FM,” says Carbon Bar General Manager Rachael Scollen. “Not only will we be providing W1 listeners with some great Carbon sounds, they’ll be given regular updates on community news, tubes, traffic as well as sales specials from Oxford Street and beyond. We’re also proud to be hosting the inaugural Open Decks Office DJ Championship on the 31st of January. This will be broadcast live across the airwaves on Radio Carbon which we’re very excited about!”
Radio Carbon 87.7FM will be on air daily from 9am until 3am, between 21st January and 3rd February, and will be broadcast direct from a temporary studio in Carbon Bar. With around two hundred thousand residents and over half a million office workers in the W1 area alone, Radio Carbon will be reaching out to an impressive three quarters of a million Londoners.
At 9pm each day the station will be handed over to one of Carbon Bar’s supremely capable in-house DJ’s to stream their nightly set live to the airwaves. DJ Monkey, Olli Collins, Tre Lowe, Woody, James Jackson and Nick Blair are amongst the names who will be playing sets on Radio Carbon. All have played at numerous renowned clubs from London to Ibiza, including Ministry of Sound, Pacha, The Cross and Soda and are amongst some of the UK’s top DJ talents.
In addition, the inaugural Open Decks Office DJ Championship - a search for London’s best budding Office DJ – will be held at Carbon Bar on Thursday the 31st of January. Recruitment is underway for competitors (contact the bar if you or a colleague would like to enter) and judges will include resident DJ Tre Lowe, Innes Weir of M8 Magazine fame and Craig Torrence of the revered Mixmag. Not only are some great prizes up for grabs, the competition will be broadcast live and direct to the W1 and beyond on Radio Carbon 87.7FM.
