Press Release Date: 26 Feb, 2009

In celebration of the historic hotel’s official re-launch the new owner of The Royal Horseguards, Guoman Hotels, today announced that they will donate a significant five figure sum on behalf of the hotel to Help For Heroes and The Household Cavalry Charitable Fund at an exclusive fund raising gala to be held at the hotel this evening (26th February). All funds raised at the Gala will go towards helping British servicemen injured in recent conflicts.

The donations signify the beginning of a year long commitment by both The Royal Horseguards and Guoman Hotels to the two charities, in recognition of the building’s historic past and its links to Whitehall, Westminster and the Blues & Royals.

Sanjay Nijhawan, chief operating officer, Guoman Hotels said: “The Royal Horseguards not only provides a warm welcome to guests seeking a distinctly British 5-star experience, but it also sits right at the heart of the country’s Government and military headquarters and as such it has been home to many important meetings, decisions and operations throughout its history. It seemed appropriate to celebrate its official re-launch by recognising its location and heritage by making a commitment to two hugely relevant charitable organisations, Help for Heroes and The Household Cavalry Charitable Fund, and raise funds for the care of Britain’s wounded servicemen and women, to whom we owe so much.”

As part of the ongoing relationship, the two charities will also receive support from the other London hotels within Guoman Hotels collection; The Tower (at Tower Bridge), the Cumberland (Marble Arch) and The Charing Cross. All of these hotels will encourage staff and approximately over 3,000 visitors a day to make voluntary charitable donations, as part of wider fundraising initiatives through out the year.

Bryn Parry, Co-Founder of Help For Heroes, said: “ Help for Heroes was launched in October 2007 by a group of friends and relations who wanted to ‘do their bit’ to support members of the Armed Forces wounded in the current conflicts. Hundreds of thousands of people across Great Britain have joined us and over £17 million has been raised in as many months to provide practical and direct help to the wounded. This wonderful initiative is part of the wave of support that is sweeping the country and we are delighted to welcome Guoman Hotels to the Help for Heroes team; thank you.”

The hotel officially becomes the latest addition to Guoman Hotels which already includes Charing Cross, The Cumberland, and The Tower.
