The Royal Horseguards hotel in Whitehall has been officially awarded five-star status by AA Hotel Services following a £16.3 million refurbishment and an extensive service development programme. The hotel, which joined Guoman Hotels in February, is now the first five-star hotel in the collection.

The historic 19th century building boasts 280 bedrooms across nine floors, all of which have been transformed into state-of-the-art luxury accommodation, with built-in iPod docking stations in every room, plasma TVs in the bathroom, mood lighting, free wi-fi access and surround sound as standard.

Throughout the refurbishment process over the last 18 months, special emphasis has been given to staff training and hotel team development to ensure that The Royal Horseguards delivered the standard of service required in order to be included in the five star category, as measured by the AA Hotel Services.

Jon Beecroft, Hotel Manager of The Royal Horseguards, comments:
“I am delighted and proud that The Royal Horseguards has been awarded five-star status. The AA has recognised the considerable investment in the property and the exceptional service and attention to detail we now provide guests.  It has been a real team effort to achieve this prestigious rating, and it is a great reward for everyone’s hard work and dedication over the last 18 months.”

At the official re-launch the property on 26th February 2009, Guoman Hotels announced a year long commitment to Help For Heroes and The Household Cavalry Charitable Fund by donating a significant five figure sum on behalf of the hotel. An exclusive fund raising gala recognised the building’s historic past and its links to Whitehall, Westminster and neighbouring regiment The Household Cavalry.
