The Jimi Hendrix Experience
‘Rainbow Haze’. Limited Edition print by Andie Airfix (Detail)
The Cumberland has a unique place in Rock ‘n’ Roll history. It was the last-known address of iconic rock legend, Jimi Hendrix. More importantly, it hosted what was to be Jimi’s final media interview, conducted by then NME-features editor, Keith Altham - just days before Jimi’s passing in September 1970.
The hotel’s fifth floor was the venue for the interview, with Hendrix speaking at length to Altham, as they relaxed in one of The Cumberland’s Suites. Now, forty years on and to officially mark the 40th anniversary since his untimely death on September 18th, The Cumberland is to unveil its Hendrix tribute suite that will be a long-lasting celebration of Hendrix; his overwhelming musical talent, unique style and iconic persona.
Altham has worked closely with The Cumberland to give an exclusive insight into Jimi as a person, reflecting on this last-ever meeting with this phenomenal guitar musician and ensuring the hotel creates a true homage to what is one of the greatest musicians of all time.
This suite will be available to book from September 20th 2010, for details please contact lucie.baker@guoman.co.uk
