At Guoman we can support you with creating a rewarding career in Hospitality.  We go out of our way to support personal development and internal promotion is common, in fact three of our five General Managers have been promoted internally and it is not uncommon for someone to start as a Receptionist or Waiter and work their way up to Supervisory or Management positions, or move to a more specialist role within the support functions.  We also encourage transfers between Guoman hotels and members of our sister group Thistle Hotels, which has 33 properties throughout the UK.


We have a great track record of supporting career development; here are some of our stories:

  1. Vidur

    Vidur joined our sister hotel group, Thistle Hotels as an Assistant F&B Manager in 2003. The following year he transferred to the role of Food Services/Conference Manager responsible for Conference facilities accommodating up to 900 at the Thistle Heathrow. He was later promoted to Food and Beverage Manager and after a successful year in that role he made the sideways move into the role of Front of House Manager. After a stint in Revenue Vidur was ready for an Operations Manager role, which he achieved at the Guoman Charing Cross, he is now Hotel Manager at the same hotel.

  2. Umesh

    Umesh joined Thistle Hotels in 2006 as Assistant Restaurant Manager at Brands Hatch, he was soon promoted to Restaurant Manager and then in 2009 he moved to Thistle St Albans as Restaurant and Bar Manager. A year later, Umesh was promoted again and moved to The Royal Horseguards in London as Assistant F&B Manager, where he continues to make a positive impact. He hopes to progress to Operations Manager in the future.

  3. Monica

    Monica joined The Selfridge Hotel as a Switchboard Operator in 2006. After impressing there Monica transferred to The Cumberland as a Receptionist in 2007. The following year she was promoted to Reception Supervisor and then Reception Manager a year later. In early 2011 Monica decided to transfer out of the Cumberland to develop her experience and skills in a different environment and she moved into the role of Reception manager at the flagship Thistle Marble Arch. Monica continues to go from strength to strength in her position.
